Personal Pressure Care

Course Overview:
This course provides essential knowledge and practical guidance for identifying, preventing, and managing pressure ulcers (also known as pressure sores or bedsores) in health and social care settings. This course is designed to support care staff in delivering safe, effective, and person-centred skin care to reduce the risk of skin breakdown and promote individual comfort and wellbeing. The content aligns with NICE Guidelines and Tissue Viability best practices.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand what pressure ulcers are, how they develop, and why prevention is important

  • Recognise the early signs and stages of pressure damage

  • Identify risk factors and use basic assessment tools (e.g. the Waterlow Scale)

  • Apply person-centred approaches to maintain skin integrity

  • Understand the role of nutrition, hydration, and repositioning in pressure ulcer prevention

  • Work in partnership with healthcare professionals to manage risk
